COVID-19 & Tobacco: Implications for a Changing Public Health Landscape

Original Air Date: August 10th, 2022 12 pm – 1 pm ET

The COVID-19 pandemic and its negative social and economic impacts have been detrimental to the mental wellbeing of many communities and individuals, exacerbating our nation’s mental health crisis and creating new barriers for individuals with pre-existing mental health and substance use challenges. Studies have shown significant increases in commercial tobacco use among adults during the pandemic. Tobacco cessation can enhance long-term recovery outcomes from mental health challenges brought on or exacerbated by the pandemic, while also reducing the likelihood of COVID-related morbidity.

By joining this webinar, you will be able to:

  • Describe the landscape of tobacco-related disparities in individuals with mental health challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Learn about the risks of COVID-19 related illness in individuals who use tobacco.
  • Gain practical tools for implementing tobacco cessation within behavioral health care settings.
