Cancer and Mental Wellbeing Education Series: The Role of Behavioral Health Providers on Tumor Boards
Original Air Date: March 23rd, 2023 @ 2 – 3PM ET
Individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders (MH/SUDs) are more likely to experience avoidable and unjust disparities in cancer care such as delayed screenings, advanced disease progression and early mortality. These disparities impact individual’s outcomes and are driven by access to care, health literacy and provider cultural competencies.
Tumor boards, an evidence-based approach that increases access to multi-specialty cancer care across health systems and providers, addresses disparities and builds capacity to provide care to individuals with complex needs. Behavioral health providers can play a vital role on tumor boards by expanding the safety net of providers and contributing to robust person-centered teams.
Join the National Behavioral Health Network for Tobacco and Cancer Control, at the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, on March 23rd, from 2 – 3pm ET to learn about the role behavioral health professionals can have on tumor boards to bridge communication in cancer care and advocate for the best treatment practices for individuals with MH/SU challenges.
