Addressing Tobacco Use and Mental Health Challenges in Pregnant Individuals: Part 1

Pregnant and postpartum individuals with mental health (MH) challenges who use tobacco encounter stigma and shame. As a result, these individuals are likely to experience avoidable and unjust disparities in care, exposing them to high risk factors and safety concerns.

Systems and clinical-based approaches, such as peer support services, can be an empathetic solution to offer support for pregnant and postpartum individuals with co-occurring MH challenges and tobacco use disorder. Furthermore, educating behavioral health care systems to implement policy changes in tandem with supportive services can offer long-term and concrete solutions that benefit these individuals.

Join the National Behavioral Health Network for Tobacco and Cancer Control, at the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, on Thursday, July 20, 2-3 p.m. ET, for Addressing Tobacco Use and Mental Health Challenges in Pregnant Individuals, the first of our two-part webinar series. This webinar will highlight tangible case studies while discussing and analyzing strategies to support pregnant individuals with MH challenges who use tobacco.

By joining this webinar, you will:

  • Understand the risk and safety factors among pregnant individuals with co-occurring MH challenges and tobacco use disorder.
  • Learn about systems and clinical-based support services and policies that can benefit pregnant individuals with MH challenges who use tobacco.
  • Identify strategies that can assist individuals in overcoming key barriers.
