NBHN partners with organizations across the sector to share promising practices and success stories of tobacco and cancer control via webinars and other virtual presentations. Past presentation topics have included tobacco-free policies, trauma-informed approaches to tobacco cessation, implementing cancer screenings and prevention in mental health and substance use treatment settings, and maximizing coverage for tobacco cessation.
NBHN also provides individualized coaching to public health and mental health/substance use organizations on ways to engage each other and collaboratively address tobacco and cancer control for people with mental health and substance use challenges.
The NBHN member-exclusive listserv is a platform to share the latest and greatest tobacco and cancer control and related mental health and substance use resources, while also facilitating peer exchange among NBHN members.
NBHN communities of practice support various organizations in enhancing tobacco and cancer control efforts. These organizations include community behavioral health centers, state, local and tribal health agencies, cancer centers, tobacco treatment programs and other health care and public health teams from across the country. Their focus is on helping clients and staff, particularly those with mental health and/or substance use challenges.
Participating organizations collaborate with NBHN, the National Council and systems-change experts. Together, they develop action plans to address these health issues. The organizations then engage in ongoing activities such as affinity groups, coaching calls and webinars. These activities help them successfully implement their action plans, with the ultimate goal of improving health and wellness and reducing cancer and tobacco disparities for people with mental health and substance use challenges.
The NBHN ECHO program supports health care providers, public health professionals, and state, local and tribal health agencies, cancer centers and tobacco treatment programs nationwide. The program focuses on enhancing tobacco and cancer control efforts for clients and staff, especially those with mental health and/or substance use challenges.
Through this program, professionals collaborate with NBHN and systems-change experts to develop actionable strategies for improving health outcomes. The goal is to improve health, reduce disparities and advance tobacco and cancer control for people facing mental health and substance use challenges.
