Webinar Title: Cancer and Mental Wellbeing Education Series: From Prevention to Survivorship

Original Air Date: September 8th, 2022 2 PM – 4 PM ET

Tobacco-related cancer disparities among individuals with mental health and substance use (MH/SU) challenges can be attributed to barriers that exist at each point in the cancer care continuum, leading to delayed screenings, advanced disease progression and early mortality.   Providers and public health professionals must explore and engage in a multi-faceted approach to reduce these disparities by examining collaborative evidence-based approaches to increase access, enhance quality, and improve outcomes.

This event is the first in a three–part series exploring cancer and mental wellbeing and will feature the following subject matter experts:

  • Samara Tahmid, Project Manager, Practice Improvement and Consulting, National Council for Mental Wellbeing
  • Heather Von St. James, 16-year Mesothelioma Cancer Survivor, Advocate and Activist
  • Bethany Ross, Neuroendocrine Cancer Survivor and Advocate

By joining this event, attendees will:

  • Increase knowledge of tobacco and cancer-related disparities faced by individuals with mental health and substance use challenges.
  • Develop an understanding of the evidence – based approaches providers and public health professionals can implement with individuals impacted by cancer and mental health challenges.
  • Learn ways to improve data collection approaches from peers.
