Upcoming Webinar – The Clinical Edge Series: Co-Treatment of Tobacco and Cannabis Use Disorders
Presented by the Behavioral Health & Wellness Program – University of Colorado
Wednesday, June 23rd at 2 pm ET
The United States is experiencing two colliding public health trajectories. New nicotine delivery devices are attracting new users at nearly three times the rate that cigarettes did just a few years ago. At the same time, nearly the entire country has passed laws protecting both medical and recreational marijuana use. These trends have made co-use of cannabis and nicotine very common among adolescents and adults. Long-standing clinical approaches to promoting health behavior change provide a solid foundation for addressing polysubstance use. Providers have an opportunity to concurrently address multiple addictions, create cross-cutting policy, and integrate co-treatment into existing workflows. This presentation will detail how integrated approaches might optimize care delivery and treatment outcomes. We will:
• Review the evidence-base for concurrent treatment of tobacco and marijuana use
• Describe strategies for integrating polysubstance use treatment into screening,
treatment, and referral
• Outline how to create and sustain policies for nicotine- and cannabis-free treatment
