This study of Manitoba women compared cervical cancer screening rates of women with and without schizophrenia and attempted to determine factors relevant to screening uptake. Women with schizophrenia were 10% less likely to receive a Pap test. Factors that decreased likelihood of a Pap test were a diagnosis of schizophrenia, aged 50+, living in a low-income area, and poor continuity of care. The study recommends that psychiatrists consider assisting in ensuring screening uptake to help respond to poor continuity of care.
